Another award show another Kodak Black snub. The most recent snub was for the song of the year award at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. The award was given to rapper Latto for her song Big Energy. Kodak Black shared his frustrations on his Twitter saying “The Woman Empowerment Shit Kool ! Don’t Take Nun From Nobody But You Still Gotta Work For It ! Don’t Jus Simply Give It To Somebody Kuz They A Woman !!!!! If That’s The Case Y’all Shoulda Gave Song Of The Year To Glorilla Not That Hating Ass Mutt 🐶.”
Many users agreed with Kodak Black that he was unfairly snubbed while others called him a sore loser and misogynist. By most measures Kodak Black had the better song, both songs peaked number 3 on Billboard. Super Gremlin has 224M views on Youtube while Big Energy has only 37M. Super Gremlin has 247M streams on Spotify while Big Energy has 183M streams.
You can’t rob someone then complain about their response to the robbery. Kodak has mentioned in interviews that he feels that he’s unfairly snubbed of awards. While most artists (Beyonce included) can relate to this feeling it doesn’t make it right. Kodak Black is an accomplished and undeniably talented artist and it’s time we recognize that. Kodak Black’s work ethic and respect from his peers proves that he deserves his success. We consume his art voraciously whether through streaming or using various clips from his hit songs on Tik Toks and reels. Few artists can match his cultural relevance, but we continue to watch as he gets robbed over and over again by institutions that claim to be our voice.
Kodak’s new project KutthroatBill: Vol 1 will be released on October 28.
